To support Northern New South Wales’ rapidly declining Koala population, FNPW awarded a grant to Friends of the Koala Inc to expand its East Lismore nursery by 80,000 trees for the food and shelter of Australia’s koala population.

The grant awarded to Friends of the Koala Inc. will extend the capacity of its current nursery to plant a total of 100,000 trees per year. This will be a major step in supporting the recovery of New South Wales’ North Coast and the Gondwana Rainforest World Heritage Area, of which 50% was devastated by the fires, destroying the habitats of thousands of native animals.

FNPW awarded one of three initial Bushfire Recovery Nursery grants to Greening Australia's Community Nursery, located in Aranda, ACT.

This came as part of the first stage of FNPW's mission to plant 1 million trees in Bushfire Recovery Nurseries over the next five years, in partnership with global non-profit, One Tree Planted and French beauty brand, L’OCCITANE.

The grant awarded to Greening Australia will extend the capacity of its current nursery by 40,000 trees, resulting in 160,000 trees. This will be a major step in supporting the recovery of the South Coast to Gippsland Corridor, with funding also allocated towards upgrades to the irrigation system, nursery benches and trolleys, as well as essential supplies such as potting mix, trays and pots.
