The Wollombi Landcare Group and 20 students from the Laguna Public School planted around 90 plants as part of the FNPW Bushfire Recovery Program on Earth Day 2021.
The trees were provided by the Hawkesbury Community Nursery as part of a project supporting nurseries to grow bushfire restoration trees.
Whilst the background may look green and “treed” this is a badly degraded part of Wollombi Brook where there are only a few native trees which were themselves planted years ago. It is also only a few kilometres from the 2019 fire fronts.
Wollombi Landcare Group have been doing a lot of woody weed control it was the right time to plant as this has been the first good planting season we’ve had for at least five years.
The school is just across the road and the kids love the planting. Their enthusiasm is exhausting for us oldies but wonderfully infectious at the same time.
