Wildlife Heroes Grants

The Wildlife Heroes project commenced in NSW through the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife in NSW to support wildlife rescue and rehabilitation volunteers across Australia.

The three year project was developed in conjunction with the NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service and supported by the NSW Government through it’s Environmental Trust.

Through the generous support of the Commonwealth Government, in 2020 and 2021 we are able to extend the Wildlife Heroes Emergency Response program nationally, offering grants and resources to wildlife volunteers and wildlife friendly vets Australia wide who are responding to emergencies stemming from the 2019/20 bushfires.

Wildlife Heroes grants support the following areas:

  • Emergency response – Equipment, consumables and immediate support for emergencies including bushfire, flood and heat stress events.
  • Assets and equipment – Large durable assets to support rescue and rehabilitation of native wildlife and small assets that assist volunteers and vets rehabilitate wildlife safely.
  • Vaccinations – vaccinations for lyssavirus for bat handlers and Q-fever for all volunteers working with native wildlife.
  • Training and mentoring – support for skills development and volunteer retention.
